Writing:

The kids finished their last realistic fiction story for the year.  Next week, we will start writing poetry.

Fancy Purple Pen Award:

Congratulations to Weston for receiving last week's Fancy Purple Pen Award.  He wrote a great problem with him having car issues, and had great details and ideas to solving his problem.  Keep up the great writing, Weston!

Math:

We will be finishing our unit with measuring next week by taking a test at the end of the week.  This week we made a "garden" and measured our flowers!  Not only was this a great way to practice measuring, but it was also a great way to decorate our hallway for spring!

Social Studies:

We are going to have an election in second grade!  We have been learning all about the local government, and we are going to have our very own second grade mayor and commissioners.  The kids that want to run for these positions are going to write speeches, and we will let the kids vote.  We are so proud of all of the students who are running, since this is a very brave thing to do in front of all of their peers!  No matter the outcome, we want this to not only be a learning experience but also fun for everyone!

Homework:

The two-sided math page is due by Friday, May 1.

Super Kid:

Congratulations to Harper for being this week's Super Kid!  Harper has been doing great in class, and is a great friend to others!  Keep up the great work, Harper!

Extra Information:

Mom Pictures due BY May 1:

If you haven't sent me a picture of mom and child yet, please do so by May 1.  Thank you!

May 19:

Save the date for May 19, since we are going on a field trip!  We are going to "Tour De Hudsonville", by walking to the City Hall from Park Elementary.  We will get to learn all about the Police Station, Fire Department, and also meet some of our very own City Government Officials!  We would LOVE for you to come with us!  Please make sure a background check is on file, and bring your most comfortable walking shoes!  We will leave at 9am, and be back before 11:50 to enjoy lunch at our normal time.  Please email me if you are planning on coming!

We had a fun ending to our day on Friday.  We had my mom come in and do a little talk about sugar, and the kids got to guess how much added sugar was in different foods (and then we got to show how much sugar that was with real sugar cubes).  We ended with a healthy smoothie!  Most of the kids wanted seconds and thirds even!  The recipe came home for those who wanted to try and make these at home.
