September 19 Update

Writing:

The kids finished their writing that they have been working on for two weeks!  We learned how to write different words other than said (we put said to bed), and how to 'show, not tell' in our writing, and even wrote onomatopoeia!  I can't wait to read their stories over the weekend.

Phonics:

We got a new student!  Meet Gus!  Gus is going to help us with Phonics this year, and he already fits in great with our class!

Spelling:

A paper came home with each of the kids today with a list of spelling words.  The words that don't have a star by them, are words that they didn't spell correctly, and parent volunteers will come and "test" your child on those throughout the year.  You can keep this copy of words at home to help your child practice.

Math:

We are working on adding and subtracting up to 20.  The homework that is going home will help with some more practice on what we are doing in class.

Reading:

I was able to do one of my favorite things this week...listen to each of the kiddos read to me!  It is so fun to hear them practice the skills they have been taught when reading!  I had them graph their reading levels, and we made goals for what we each can do to become a better reader.  Ask your child what his/her goal is.

Voracious Reader of the Week:

Congratulations to Axel for being this week's Voracious Reader!  Axel is doing a great job in reading, and even moved up two levels since the end of first grade!  Keep up the great reading, Axel!

Homework:

The two-sided math page is due by Friday, September 26 (Early Release Day)

Super Kid:

Congratulations to Isla for being this week's Super Kid!  Isla is doing a great job in the classroom showing respect and being a great friend to others!  Keep up the great work, Isla!

Extra Information:
