November 26 Update

Image
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break!  I hope you get a chance to just take time and enjoy your family.  You have some pretty amazing kiddos! What a fun day making pies!  Thank you to all of you who were able to come, and also for supplying the ingredients we needed to make these!  I hope that your child has fun gifting these pies to others!  We have been working on building community in our classroom and seeing how some kids gifted their pies to each other, I guess they took the "appreciate each other" message to heart! We also had a fun assembly this week!  The Conquerors showed us that we should never give up, and keep trying when things are hard!

Writing: We finished our nonfiction pieces that we have been working on for the last two weeks! I can't wait to read these and learn about the topics your child is an expert on!   For our two days of school next week, we will do some fun Thanksgiving-themed creative writing. Math: We took our unit test this week, so next week we will do some fun graphing for our two days of school. Reading: The kids have been working on their reading stamina and reading good fit books.  We have also been talking about comparing and contrasting when reading different informational texts. Voracious Reader of the Week: Congratulations to Bradley for being this week's Voracious Reader!  Bradley has been doing a great job reading about his topic to get information to write about.  Keep up the great reading, Bradley! Phonics: The kids have been learning so much about endangered animals with the new phonics skills, that they made "tshirts" to inform others about endangered animals. Sup...

Writing: The kids are almost done with their non-fiction pieces.  This week we wrote another chapter, a kinds of, a diagram, and fun facts.  Next week, we will finish by writing our conclusion, glossary, index, and about the author!  I am so excited to read these! Math: The kids are solving some big addition and subtraction problems.  Have them show you how they would subtract 67-13 on a number line.  Can they also show you how to add 67 + 13?   Reading: We doubled up with phonics during reading, making sure to learn some more skills for figuring out bigger words when we read books. Voracious Reader of the Week: Congratulations to Oliver for being our Voracious Reader of the Week!  Oliver is doing an amazing job reading, and picking good fit books!  Keep up the great reading! Phonics: We have been learning so many strategies for when we come across hard words while reading.  The kids LOVED Safari Day!  Thank you so much for le...
