October 24 Update

Writing:

The kids finished their nonfiction books from last week, and are already working on their next book.  Ask your child what he/she is interested in writing about this time.

Fancy Purple Pen Award:

There were two recipients of the Fancy Purple Pen Award from last week!  Congratulations to Ollie and Axel!  These two boys taught me a lot about birds and fish!  Keep up the great writing, Ollie and Axel!

Math:

The kids are learning all about counting by twos this week!  We thought of a list of things that come in twos (eyes, ears, nostrils, pants, socks, legs, double-sided markers, double-sided crayons, sleeves) and decided to make a poster with earrings.

Phonics:

The kids have been having fun with practicing fluency with rhyming words in poems.  We have been playing a game of rhyme tennis, where the kids work with partners on reading a poem for fluency, and then finiding two words that rhyme in the poem.  Then they take turns writing different rhyming words that rhyme with the two words they found in the poem.  They go back and forth until they can't think of any more rhyming words, and the player that could go last is the winner for that round.  This could be fun to do with them at home!  Here's a good starting rhyme: take, lake...now you and your child go back and forth coming up with words that rhyme with these.

Reading:

The kids are still reading nonfiction books in reading, to help with their nonfiction books they are writing.

Homework:

The math page is due by Thursday, October 30.
