December 12 Update

Writing: The kids finished up writing letters to different people about books they think the recipient of the letter would like.  They wrote to Mrs. Stefanich, their first grade teacher, a friend, and a family member.  They delivered these letters to people they wrote these to, so if you were a recipient of such a letter, it may be fun to write back to your child.  We ended the week by looking back at our first letter to Mrs. Stefanich which was graded, and rewrote it to make it even better to see how our scores will change. Math: We have been measuring a lot in second grade.  We measured with feet, yards, and inches.  Next week, we will take a check point on what we have been learning, and then we will continue with this unit a few days after Winter Break, and take our test within that first week back. Phonics: Research has shown that kids learn best when they are having fun, and having fun is what we are doing!  We are learning so many fun games to ...

Writing: The second graders are off to a great start writing persuasive letters. They have the structure pretty much figured out. They write great beginnings and use transition words pretty consistently. Where everyone needs to improve is in volume. They just need to say more to be more persuasive! We will work on adding details and examples next week! We also cut string to the size of our heads, measured it using tiles and then used it to help estimate the length of things in the room. We will continue to work on both estimating and measuring accurately next week. Reading: In reading this week we explored ways to figure out the tricky word...

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break!  I hope you get a chance to just take time and enjoy your family.  You have some pretty amazing kiddos! What a fun day making pies!  Thank you to all of you who were able to come, and also for supplying the ingredients we needed to make these!  I hope that your child has fun gifting these pies to others!  We have been working on building community in our classroom and seeing how some kids gifted their pies to each other, I guess they took the "appreciate each other" message to heart! We also had a fun assembly this week!  The Conquerors showed us that we should never give up, and keep trying when things are hard!
